WordPress + LinkedIn Fail Whale Sighting

Posted by Bob Warfield on December 10, 2008

I thought I’d try the new WordPress add-in application for LinkedIn.  It sounded cool as it is supposed to connect your blog to you LinkedIn presence, which is something I’d love to do.  In theory, it’s dead simple.  Give it your blog URL, select a couple checkbox options and you are done.

Just one problem:  it comes back with a “Can’t parse JSON” cryptic error message.  You’d think this would be a no-brainer for SmoothSpan, which is the SaaS version of WordPress.  I have access to only very few configuration options on the blog and almost no options on the LinkedIn add-in, so it seems to me it would be hard for me to have screwed it up.

Meanwhile, I’m not the only one seeing this problem, though not too many have complained yet.  Hopefully they’ll get it fixed soon as it’s a cool app and I know it is working fine for some others.

Update

Yay, it’s fixed.  According to WordPress, “a seemingly unrelated code change broke something.”   Pssst!  WordPress guys?  That’s why software companies have QA.  Don’t check code changes into production without testing at least well enough to tell if a major new application works!  Even when they seem “unrelated”!
